My career working on and for magazines, websites and newspapers has combined writing, editing and subediting in both staff and freelance capacities. I’m well versed in everything from optimising client copy for contract publishing outlets and producing advertorial to writing opinionated columns and reviews.
Although I have written about everything from the food to travel, I have specialised in film and videogaming. I was deputy editor on Channel 4’s film website for five years, retaining my involvement subsequently as a contributing editor. For five years, I also wrote a weekly column for the BBC’s unique online culture magazine Collective.
Over the years I’ve interviewed numerous key figures in the entertainment industry, including Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, Guillermo Del Toro, Michael Winterbottom, legendary comics creator Frank Miller, and figures from the games industry such as Shane Dabiri, lead producer of the enormously successful World of Warcraft, and Patrice Desilet, creative director on Prince of Persia The Sands of Time and Assassin’s Creed.
I have given talks at conferences, for films seasons and in galleries; I have written art exhibition catalogue essays; I have also talked about film and videogames on radio and television; and recently I contributed to ‘Under Fire’, a collection of essays on war movies.
