Ouch

Went to bed the other night, turned out the light then felt a sharp pain in my leg. Thought Fran was sticking a particularly sharp claw in me, but the next day a large red mark and swelling indicated it was some sort of beast.

I was stung by a wasp in my bed once when I was a kid. It’s just so rude! This incident was slightly more worrying as there was talk of white-tail spiders. This is an Aussie arachnid that’s spread accross NZ. Its bite can be painful, but isn’t usually that bad. Except Yoni, a friend of Nadia’s, was telling me how a friend of hers had spent two weeks in hospital after a white-tail bite had resulted in his skin starting to slough off. Not something I wanted to happen in my groin region thanks.

It got pretty swollen, despite Nadia’s efforts to hit it with homeopathic remedies. We concluded it was a bumble bee. It’s nearly gone now, but the whole skin-coming-off thing was decidedly unnverving.

Fran did take some pics, but they really don’t capture the full glory. Plus, we’ve not really had a chance to Flickr lately as we’ve been staying with friends who only have clockwork connections.

The bite swelling has gone down now. Hurrah! However, I seem to have done my knee in now, and it’s all swollen and painful. Boo! Particularly annoying as just hooked up with some friends to do some diving.
